We at Coughtrie are always pleased to see the effect of our work, and this particular story puts a smile on many faces around the company.
In March of 2022, Brian Wheeler got in touch with us about his mum’s original Coughtrie light fitting. The original SP bulkhead had hung above her door in Elgin for decades but was replaced by a plastic light when it stopped working.
This, Brian said, looked “odd and out of place” and so he approached Coughtrie to repair the original Coughtrie light.
“It may seem like just a light to some, but it’s been on that house for donkeys’ years and it’s in family photo’s for as long as we were in the house from 1968. It’s a part of the fabric of the house really and should be where it belongs.”
Brian was invited to the Coughtrie factory to have the original light repaired and restored. It was then fitted and replaced above Marion’s door.
She enjoyed it for two more years before sadly passing in September 2024.
“Naturally we are devastated and are still coming to terms with her no longer being here but are comforted that she was in her own home of 57 years and we were all there with her.”
“She was tickled pink at it being repaired and delighted to hear that the company was still going strong and that they repaired ‘her’ light. She really was over the moon with it.”
If we can have some small part in a customer being more comfortable in their home, we’ve done well.
“The house has since been sold, but I have written to the new owner with the background/story on the front door light, and hopefully it will be there for another 60+ years.”
It’s nice to know that the Coughtrie brand will be a part of the legacy of the home, with not only Marion but a new homeowner.
